Can-Do Challenge-Breathe from Your Belly!

When I was in College I signed up to take a Holistic Health class...just for fun. It ended up being too much for my schedule so I ended up dropping the class even though I hung on to one of the books. The book is called Stress Free For Good, written by Dr Fred Luskin & Dr. Kenneth R Pelletier, and if you know me, but at all, you know that I live by this book! I will recommend this book until I am blue in the face and everyone around me has read it, it is that life changing! So, the next few Sundays will have challenges, that actually double as Life Skills, from this book.

The first life skill written about in this book is: Breathe from Your Belly

Purpose:
~The simplest form of stress management
~Belly breathing helped you think in more productive ways

Practice:
~As you inhale, imagine your belly is a big balloon (yes, take that big of a breath)
~As you exhale, make sure your belly stays relaxed
~Take at least two or three more slow and deep breaths, making sure to keep your attention on the rise and fall of your belly

Tips:
~Practice every day
~You can practice even if you are not under any stress

Application:
~When you feel angry
~If you get nervous
~When you need to think before you speak
~When you need help falling asleep

Life Skill:
"Breathing slowly and deeply into and our of your belly is a signal to your mind and body to let go of stress and improve your health and happiness" (73).

Again, all of this information comes straight from the book...I have paraphrased and generally it is not verbatim-I only chose a few items that have really helped me, that I hope will help you :-)

30 Day Challenge: Day 21

Ok, so here is the story behind my name name.

My bio-dad was a sommelier and my parents loved wine! I was named after a very expensive bottle of wine "La Tache" that you can find in Bordeaux, France.

I hope that my Sweeter and I can make it there on our honeymoon {more to come when we know what we are doing} I have always wanted to go there!

30 Day Challenge: Day 20

Day 20-Nicknames

I don't know about all of you...I know that I am not a fan of nicknames...they just aren't my thing...I have a unique name and I like it and I want people to call me by it! If anyone wants to give me a nickname, it needs to be a special name...not something that just shortens the name I already have...

Some of the nicknames that I have and the story behind them:

Sweeter/Sweeterfan: When my Sweeter got back to the US after his deployment in Iraq, the first text he sent to me said "I love you sweeterfan." Later that day, after we had reunited, I asked him about the new nickname and he told me that he meant for it to read "sweetheart" and that the iTap on his phone probably just got mixed up! I thought that it was hilarious and so we started called each other Sweeter and Sweeterfan.

Friend: I was talking with my best friend at lunch one afternoon and we were talking about how there were some people in our lives that we couldn't let go of, even though it was important that we did. We were telling each other unfortunate stories about those people and somehow we started saying at the end of the stories: "Thanks FRIEND!" or "Thanks ENEMY!" I don't even remember how it all happened because we had been laughing so hard we were crying...all I know, is that the name just stuck!

Spot: So, one of my best friends from High School invited me to her Aunt and Uncles Lake House for a long weekend that we had. When I met her Aunt and Uncle the very first question they asked me was: "How did you get your name?!" {more on that to come in tomorrows post} And then they asked me what it meant in English and I told them "the spot." Since that day, 9 years ago{holy cow!} her entire family has called me Spot or Spotty and I LOVE it!

Those are really the only nicknames that I have that have a fun story behind them...haha Like I said...I am not the biggest fan of nicknames..

30 Day Challenge: Day 19

thank you to everyone who gave me awards today! for some reason, I got a few today! I will respond to those tonight! I am in all day meetings today (Friday) and won't be able to get on the computer! I wish you all a FABULOUS FRIDAY!

Day 19-Something you Miss

We all know that I miss my Sweeter and that I can talk about this all day long until I am blue in the face and the sun goes down...so I will do my best to talk about something else :-)

So....something I miss....hmmm, this is a tough question...{and, yes, I am going to take this in a literal way :-)}

I miss how simple life used to be before we got all caught up in technology. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that life is made easier with computers and phones to keep in touch with everyone and the knowledge that it is at our fingertips, wow- I mean, WOW, our world has come so far!
Image
We valued different things and we made different choices and efforts. We trusted our minds, brains and hearts.  Today with the click of a button and a few types on the keyboard, we are paying our bills, checking our credit scores, shopping on-line and keeping in touch with faraway friends.
How incredible is it that we don't even have to leave our computer monitor to order groceries...what happened to going outside and getting some fresh air-oh that's right, we have all grown lazy...I know I am :-) {that said, I have never bought groceries on-line :-)}

Whatever happened to reading a book, the smell of it, the weight of it in your hand? That isn't important anymore, now we google it and we read our books on Kindles, iPods and Computers!

Image
Don't even get my started on phones! Whatever happened to picking up your landline and calling your friend...don't you remember twirling the phone cord between your fingers?! I miss that! Now we don't even call...we text! Pick up a pen and paper and write a letter...I know that it makes my day every time I get letter mail-and NO, it is not the same as email!

We don't even have to go outside to exercise....Wii has come up with this WiiFit game that is supposed to be the equivalent of a work out...really?! Come on!  Kids at school aren't required to do P.E. anymore...those classes have been replaced by computer and technology classes.

I miss that life used to be so much more simple!
Image
Note: Don't get me wrong...I don't think that my life would be the same without my computer or my phone {granted, I don't have internet on my phone} I can't even begin to tell you how much having the internet has saved me! I have the opportunity to email with my Sweeter and get instant replies instead of having to wait weeks, sometimes months to hear back {I must say, that he sends me love letters in the mail and it always makes my entire week! There is just something about the fact that he touched that paper-it is amazing!}

Wow, who knew I had it in me to write such a rant :-) haha I swear...I am not really that mad :-)
Go check out Katie's blog and link up!!

30 Day Challenge: Day 18

{Thank you everyone for all of your sweet comments on my Day 17 post! You are all so sweet! And who knew so many just love love love Hawai'i! I have been going since as long as I could remember because one of my Aunts lives there! I wish that I could fit you ALL into my suitcase...unfortunately I cannot so I will just keep you updated through my little blog!}

Day 18-Something you Regret

I do my best not to regret things that I do. I have learned to not take my life so seriously-which is a very difficult life change!

If I had to pick one thing, it would be that I should have listened to my parents when we talked about a business endeavor that I embarked on that pretty much flopped. I am doing my best to look at this whole situation as a learning opportunity and a lesson on how to be more responsible about how I handle my own money.

There are times that I regret not being more selfish. I know that selfish seems like such a negative word--I don't look at it that way. I think of it as taking time to make sure that I am taken care of. This is important to keep in mind even though it is very hard to actually do.

Like I said, I don't regret too much because at the time of my action it was something that I wanted and that I had complete control over.

TGIT-I have been TAGGED!

Image
I have made a new blogging friend over at A Law Student in love with her Marine and she has tagged me in a fun blogging game!

Someone from Fabulous Fridays, Life as a Wife, started this fun chain.  So here is the drill: Since The Law Student in Love with her Marine tagged me, I answer her 8 questions, create 8 new questions, and then tag 4 people to answer my questions and keep the chain going. :)

deal? deal. Lets get this party started!

1. What is your favorite military movie? Why? What is it about?

  So this is a difficult question because I cannot watch Military Movies...haha, I know silly, right!? I get to chocked up and my sweeter has banned me from them...at least until he gets back from his deployment and we can watch them together...ha! {I know this is sad...I just get soo emotional! You should have seen me in Blackhawk Down a couple of months back! It wasn't pretty...let me tell you!}
2. If you could travel to one place in the world for a week, where would it be and why?

If I could pick one place I would pick a place I have already been and that is NO fun so I will pick somewhere I have never been...I think that I would have to say Spain. I think that everything about Spain is beautiful {I only know this from pictures}. The culture is so rich and vibrant and definitely a culture that I wish I knew even more about than just the 7 years of Spanish that I took throughout my educational career.
3. What is your favorite physical activity?

I love to play tennis! I also love to walk everywhere...If I could not have a car and walk everywhere without a problem, I would!
4. What is your favorite lazy pastime?

Recently it has been blogging and reading other blogs! I am a nerd, I know!
5.  Are you dressing up for halloween?  If so, what's your costume?

Of course I am dressing up, I am just not sure as what yet...I will probably throw something together on the day of!
6. What was your favorite childhood toy?

For Easter when I was 7 I got this little bunny rabbit.  The day after Easter, my mom and step-dad and I went to Europe and I carried that rabbit with me everywhere. I talked to it, I would feed it, I would hold its hand....I loved that rabbit!! I actually still have it!
7. What is your favorite recipe? (feel free to share it!)

Butternut Squash & Vanilla Risotto! Hands down!
8. Is it appropriate to swish jell-o around inside your mouth?

HA! I love this question...I am not sure if it is appropriate...I know that I do it! :-)

My 8 Questions:
1) What is your comfort food?
2) What is your favorite article of clothing?
3) How much sleep do you need a night to feel rested?
4) Cold or hot?
5) Are you the big spoon or the little spoon?
6) Have you been in love? How did you know?
7) What is one thing that you won't skimp on when handing over your credit card?
8) Have you voted? If not, will you vote in this election?

30 Day Challenge: Day 16

When I was in Italia in 2008, my Aunt and Uncle took me to Bassano Del Grappa, yes: where Grappa is made, and YES: we tasted it :-)

And I fell in love with a house here...it is pink and I will live in it some day!

The one in the background...at the top

Could you imagine the view?!

Just going home...NBD...
How gorgeous is it?! And in a prime location to-boot!! Even better!!

Guest Blogging...

...Again! Wow! I am on a roll here!!

Another blogging buddy of mine, Jenni over at She's Getting Married, has an adorable blog! She has captured her wedding exciting through planning, family, friends and health and I am proud to say that I am guest blogging on her blog today!

I can't remember how I found her blog...I DO remember why I decided to follow her: I was reading one of her posts and she mentioned that she was in the same Woman's Fraternity, in college, that I was {at different schools, I must add} and I felt an instant connection! I guess that sisterhood bond really does exist!

Please go check it out and let me know what you think! I wish you all a fabulous day!

Monday, Monday, Monday!

Gotta love that I posted Top 2 Tuesday before I posted my Monday Blogs! :-) It has just been one of those days!!

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters
I had one AWESOME weekend!!

Saturday: Crepes on Cole...need I say more? I don't think so...Oh wait..one more thing..It was with my darling little whom I adore and her family and friends! My little Casey-Case has the BIGGEST heart and I love her for it!

Um...LOS GIGANTES ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!! {ever wonder why it's called the "World Series"?! The teams are all American...hahaha

Sunday: Sonoma for some wine making! Yes, that is right...I am making wine!
Hard at work with my two favorite gals!

LUCY!!!

Right before the grape fight!

Right AFTER the grape fight!

Making wine, while drinking wine...this is the only way I will do it now :-)

I am linking up with Java at Never Growing Old! This is my first time, as you know, I am a sucker for good questions!!
Questions:

1. Do you sleep with a night light on? No, I really can't, I wish I was one of those "I can sleep anywhere" kind of people....
2. What do you drink with dinner? I will drink water or wine...wince recently! I love wine...as you can see from above :-)
3. Do you play the lottery? If so, how often?
I have-only a few times in my life...once, Sweeter and I won another lotto ticket...the second we got wasn't so lucky...oh well! It is fun anyway!
4. How often do you go to the grocery store? Well, I know this may sound spoiled....I lived on campus my frosh year of college...I had the DC food...so not too much food shopping. My Soph year, I lived on campus with a kitchen...we probably went every couple of weeks..it's hard to get to the store without a car... My junior year, I was an RA--I had a kitchen, so maybe once or twice a month we would make costco runs. My senior year, I lived in a res hall as an RA without a kitchen, so I had the DC. My super senior year, I was an RA again and I had the DC and now I am back at my parents house, ETD(estimated time of departure) soon to share, so I don't go to the store much now either...once I am living with my Sweeter, probably once a week..or every day! That man can EAT!
5. Would you rather travel back in time 500 years or travel forward 500 years? I have seen this question and I have been contemplating it ALL day! I think I will have to say {drum roll please} In the future! I want to see what the world looks like in 500 years!! We have already seen what it looked like from books and stories...I want to know the future!!

I hope you all had a great Monday!!

Top 2 Tuesday

Does anyone else feel like last week Tuesday was forever ago?! I sure do! I almost feel like I forgot to do this last week!

Phew..I didn't! :-)

Top 2 Halloween or Fall crafts/decor/party ideas

I am sad because I don't have any pictures because we haven't decorated...we are getting ready for a big remodel of our casa! SO...we haven't had any time to decorate!

My favorite Halloween decorations will have to be Pumpkins and Everyone's costumes!

For the past few years we have gone "trick or treating" with family friends in neighborhoods where the kids get treats and the adults get wine refills! Who doesn't want to go to these kinds of neighborhoods!?

The year before last I was a witch, last year I was a Flapper and this year...well I don't know what I want to be... I will probably something out of my mom's 80s closet! :-)

I wish you all a Tip Top 2 Tuesday!

30 Day Challenge: Day 15

Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

I really do believe that there is an ultimate plan for each and every person and everything happens in our lives to make these plans a reality.
This is a beautiful quote and it gives me faith that there I have a purpose on this Earth.

Can-Do Challenge-No Buts About It!

Good Morning to All!

As promised yesterday, here is my first Can-Do Challenge!

There will be a couple of challenges in this post because I bunch all of these words together!

"I'm sorry"
I am a very apologetic person...I am always saying "I am sorry" etc for things that I am not really sorry about, or don't need to be sorry about.  When you say you are "sorry" about something you basically are telling yourself that you are a burden to someone else..and lets face it...we are not burdens, everyone is lucky to be around us! ;-)

"I tried"
My old boss once told me this: "To try is an act of nothing-ness". Isn't that an interesting way to look at that word? It totally makes sense!! And ever since then I do my best to use a different phrase (do you see..I just did it!)

"But..."
When we say something and then say "but" we basically negate everything that we said before the "but". Not saying "but" is probably the most difficult word to cut out of my vocabulary. (i.e. "I want to do this but we can do this" -ok, maybe that wasn't the best example...you get the point!- What was the point of saying the whole first phrase if you are just going to go with the second? Right?!)  In doing this, I feel like what I have to say has so much more meaning behind it because I say what I mean and it is teaching me to communicate better with others.

The Challenge
Really think about what you mean and what you want to say before you say it or type it ;-).  Do your best to cut these words out of your vocabulary where they are unnecessary and do not add to your conversation. Speak slower and you will notice that this isn't as hard as you may think!

30 Day Challenge: Day 13

Day 13-Goals

I love this blog challenge! I love it because some of the posts are so intimate and some are so fun and light hearted! And they all really make you think about how to answer each topic!  It really makes me open up in a world that I never thought that I would...so thank you Katie! This truly has been a great journey!

I have always been known as the planner! I need to have everything mapped out and I need to know the outcome of things before I even start! {A fun fact about me...I read the last page/paragraph of books before I start reading them...I don't know why, because I usually don't have any idea what is going on but it is just something that I have to do.} All of that said, I have many goals in my life...many large and most small details.

Some of my goals:

Get married to the man who always makes me smile..no matter what!
To grow my patients.
To travel to places I have never been-experience new cultures.
To raise a family.
To have a job that will pay the bills so we don't have to ever worry about money
To have just enough money to be able to afford the things that our family needs and have some left over for the fun stuff!
To be involved in a charity, or start my own.
To keep the friendships that I have today, strong and unwavering, and create new ones in the new places we go.

I have many goals!! I can't wait to read about all of yours!

Go check out Katie's blog and link up!!

Blogging 100!

Wow! I have 100 followers (ok, 109...still, over 100)
Who knew this day would come!!
Thank you all for taking an interest in my life!!!

I have decided that I want to take this blog on a couple of different tangents...are you all with me? Ok, GREAT!

1) I want to start something every week called "Can-Do Challenge" Basically what this entails is every week I will post a new personal challenge that I want to work on myself, or have worked on in the past, and I want you all to link to it by posting stories on how your have completed the challenge, how the challenge is going and what you have experienced {feelings, emotions, etc}while fulfilling the challenge!  The first one will be posted on Sunday and I will posted them on Sundays in the future! If you have any challenges that you want to overcome, let me know and I will post it!

2) I went to Italy in the summer of 2008 and I miss being there every day! I kept a journal and I wrote emails to my Sweeter every day with what I did and what I saw and who I met. I want to share those with you! I will do these once a week and hopefully it will give you inspiration to write about your own travel journeys and show all of us new places that we all dream to visit!

Thanks again, to everyone! I am really enjoying this new world that I am diving into! Thanks for reading :-)

Fun Fridays

Fun Fridays

Today has definitely been and interesting Friday! I am waiting for the fun to kick in around lunch time when I go to my new favorite deli with one of my favorite people!

So, I scooted to BART this morning and on my way down my street I realized that I was doing something extremely dangerous! It was a little bit wet on the ground and I didn't think much of it until I was trying to break and I wasn't slowing down! I semi-panicked and then I took a couple of deep breaths and then I started fishtailing! My life flashed before my eyes {haha, ok, not really...but I was a little nervous!} I jumped off of Scoot Scoot and ended up running the rest of the way down my street! EEK!

So, this morning I spend a quick minute looking for a "big kid" scooter on craigslist....with the weather changing and a higher change of rain...I am thinking that good ol' Scoot Scoot will not suffice....

Any ideas on where I can find an "adult" scooter???

I am looking forward to this weekend! I am in need of some good sleep, seeing my sweet "little" and her family and hopefully our trip to wine country won't get canceled like it was last weekend! Fingers crossed!

I am in love with this picture!! It is just so romantic, sexy, beautiful, elegant, amazing, lovely, passionate and I want to do this!

I wish everyone a fabulous Friday!

Thursday 5

 Happy Happy Thumbs-Up Thursday!!
{What do you all think of my new alliteration?! Catchy, huh?! Don't worry, I won't be mad if you copy me :-)}

Explain how you each of these words this week!
I feel Happy on this Thursday because I slept in the middle of my queen sized bed last night! I am not usually an indecisive sleeper, but last night I was feeling crazy and decided to sleep smack in the middle! It felt great!
I feel Giddy on this Thursday because I got a sweet sweet email from my Sweeter this morning!
I feel Joy on this Thursday because the Giants are doing soo great and this beautiful city I live in is buzzing with new people and a lot of excitement!!
I feel Glee on this Thursday because I am counting down the days until I get to see my Sweeter and there are less days to go compared to the days we have spent apart!
I feel Thankful on this Thursday that I am meeting up with a friend for coffee at my new favorite place: La Boulange! I can't wait for my chai..and maybe I will splurge and get a pastry...we will see how the day goes :-)

Words brought to us by Life as a Sailors Girl

30 Day Challenge: Day 11

I don't watch too much TV as a result of my family getting dibbs on the remote control before I can even think to grab it! So I watch most of my shows online.
I am mainly an ABC gal and most of my shows are on that station.  The only show that I have to watch at the time it is on is Desperate Housewives, or how I affectionately refer to it as: DH, and fortunately enough, my family watches the show too, so I don't have to put up a fight for my Sunday night at 9pm time slot!

Here is my weekly line-up:

Sunday: Desperate Housewives
Image
Monday: Castle
Image

Tuesday: Glee
Image

Wesdnesday: Modern Family
Image
& Cougar Town
Image

Thursday: Greys Anatomy
Image

& Private Practice {even though, Private Practice may have lost me as a viewer based on their last episode...I will give them one more week (this week) to  make it up to me!}
