Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday

My friend over at Then I Got to Thinking has always done a Thankful Thursday and so I wanted to share this with you all....

I am thankful that I have someone in my life who loves me and even when he is far away {which he often is --but not for long....} he still does the sweetest things to show me he is thinking about me and that he cares!

I just got beautiful flowers delivered to me at work, just because

I think that I am pretty lucky! Oh, and very Thankful!

Thoughtless Thursdays

As you may know, I ride my scooter to and from BART to get to work. I love it because it gives me some extra exercise (being in an almost permanent lunge position)!
I also love it because every morning I scoot past the local elementary and middle school and a new meaning has come from "kids say the darndest things"

The other day, I was greeted with, "Woah! Look at that lady on a scooter"
{haha I have never really been called a "lady" before!}

And this morning I got two salutations, aside from the crazy looks I get every morning!

"WooHoo!"
and "That's awesome!"

The kids are usually boys and I think they can appreciate my scooting abilities more than girls can. Like I said before, I had never ridden a scooter before this summer!

Happy Thursday to all!

{Almost} Tramatic Incident

So, I was Scooting to work today, like I do most days, and I was flying down my street {It is steep and I always end up going very fast!}when out of no where...a SQUIRREL darted out RIGHT in front of my path and I almost ran him over!

Here is where it turns into an {almost} traumatic experience, in college I was in a sorority {all of you sorority girls out there know how much you love your mascot} well, I am a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, and our mascot: a squirrel. So, NOW you all can imagine my horror when I almost ran one over...on Scoot Scoot!

Come on now, Skiourrous ...you need to be more careful next time you are crossing the road! i.e. look both ways!?

14 years...

...and still going strong!

Happy Anniversary to the two people who have helped me grow into the woman that I am today. Yes, there are many people in my life who have influenced my growth; however, these two have been by my side through it all.

Sure, I have fought with them. Sure, I have wanted to scream {heck, I HAVE screamed} Sure, I have laughed with them, cried with them, smiled and scowled. Yet they are always understanding and they push me to succeed and be the best that I can be!

I raise my glass to you, Mom and David! You both have been a great support to me in many ways and I will forever be grateful!!

Thank you for all that you do, and for putting up with me over the years...not that you had much of a choice ;-)

Happy Anniversary!

 Favorite Weekend Moment

I was able to head up to Monterey to visit my Aunt and Uncle this weekend.  The entire weekend I was getting wedding and marriage advice from them because I know that they have a good and healthy marriage.  My favorite moment was all of those conversations! It was so sweet so see them being sassy with each other! It was so sweet and it was such a wealth of information!

I know that I am a day late but I wanted to get in on this and write mine :-)

Come Home!

Can my sweeter come home already?!

sheesh!

The Dresses are In!

I got an email from my MOH and she told me that she heard from the salon that the bridesmaid dresses are in!!!

Wow! Talk about getting them in advance and not having to rush at the last minute! :-)

Two of the four girls are out of state and one of the four lives in the South Bay, so I am going to be picking up their dresses and hanging on to them until we are all reunited! I am super excited to see them!!

The dresses are beautiful and I am sad that I didn't get one for myself! ;-) Haha, oh boy, can you imagine?!

I wish you all a Magnificent Monday!!

My Purchase Update

I ended up buying the jacket...yesterday...on my lunch break!

I just couldn't wait, so I left at noon for lunch and I booked it downtown to the closest Anthropologie, I tried it on, got some compliments after wearing it around the store and decided...HAPPY BIRTHDAY late TO ME!

I need some new tops, so I think that I am going to go to Forever 21 or something after work today..we will see...

I hope every one is looking forward to their weekends!

I may have to splurge....

I want these shoes!

And I want this jacket!

Thursdays are the best-days!

I started my day off with a decaf toffee mocha and a pumpkin scone...I am feeling a little jittery, but the scone made the trip to Starbucks totally worth it!
"Since things don't always go right, it's nice to have someone like you on my left"

How adorable is this quote!? It makes me smile from the inside out and my heart flutter !

I hope you all have a terrific Thursday!

Birthday Friend

Yesterday was my best friend's (FRIEND) 21st birthday!

My little Chicadee is all grown up!

At midnight I took her to a bar in my hometown where I got all of the patrons to wish her best wishes and buy her drinks! I had a blast, and I think that she did too ;-)

Last night, we went out in North Beach and ate a yummy Italian feast with wine and great company!

I am wishing her the best year and many more to come!

Happy Happy Birthday, Birthday FRIEND!

This picture was taken on MY birthday a couple of weeks ago!

I'd like a one-way ticket to SPACE!

Boeing has come to an agreement with a Virginia Company to start selling seats for commercial trips to space! They haven't decided on a price yet....oh boy!

Could you imagine searching Kayak for a flight to space..I wonder if they would have 1st class and coach...or would it be like the Movie The Fifth Element where you wouldn't get a seat, you would be in a cubbyhole and sleep for the entire trip!

Where would the destination be? Would you have to buy a round-trip ticket?! What if you only bought a one-way...where would they leave you?!

Oh the possibilities! My mind is boggled!

Could you imagine going on a trip into space...for your honeymoon! Wow, how romantic! Talk about shooting for the stars!

Don't use milk if you lose a tooth!

The first day of summer for my littler broski was a traumatizing one..

He was riding his bike with his friends and they were all doing jumps and tricks. Little did my little broski know, he was going to miscalculate and wipe out eating the pavement...literally! He called our mom and when my mom picked him up, he was missing almost his entire front tooth and had cracked the tooth next to it...and to make matters worse, the remaining stub was black from the asphalt! The worst part about the entire thing is that the tooth was broken so close to the gum that the nerves were exposed so he couldn't eat or even breathe through his mouth!

Luckily the chipped off tooth was found on the ground and after rushing the little broski home, mom called around to see what she should do with the tooth while they waited to get to the dentist. She was given a few words of advice: keep it moist, keep it cool, submerse it it milk were among the few suggestions. So mom decided to wet a paper towel with milk and store it in the fridge

There is a light at the end of this tunnel, I promise! They went to the dentist and fortunately enough the dentist was able to "glue" the tooth back into his mouth and it looks like new!

I was reading my daily CNN articles and I thought that I would share this story with you based on this article!

If you ever lose a body part, here is what to do with them:

Fingers and toes: Keep cold, not icy
Teeth: Milk not necessary
Eyeballs: Don't push back in

Quite and interesting article, CNN! I definitely appreciated the tips, just in case my eyeball falls out!

The Alchemist

After The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest I started reading The Alchemist written by Paulo Coelho. I got this book as a graduation gift, I must admit: I cannot remember who from ALWAYS write a note on the inside cover of a gifted book>. I began reading this book without really knowing what to expect and to be completely honest, it has really changed my outlook on a lot of things...

This book is about realizing what you true dreams are, your Personal Legend, and one boy's (Santiago) quest to finding his. Santiago's Personal Legend had him meeting new people, encountering good and bad omens and traveling across the desserts of Egypt all in search of a 'treasure' that he saw in a dream.

From friendship, hard work, love and spirituality, Santiago's story is compelling, captivating and inspiring of the heart, the mind and the soul!

I will absolutely recommend this book, 100%. It was a quick and easy read (I was done with it in about 6 BART rides (i.e. 3 interrupted hours)

Here is a quote to get you all out to the local bookstore and pick up a copy for yourself!

"When you really want something, the universe always conspires in your favor."

Didn't you just get the chills!!

READ THIS BOOK!

Top 2 Tuesday

Top 2 things you want to accomplish before the end of the year

1) Have all of the vendors for my wedding - this will be challenging because I am a procrastinator...I want to do this so I don't leave anything until the last minute to cause any unnecessary stress!

2) Save some money for my new life with my handsome sweeter! When he is done with his current situation, he is planning to go back to school which means that we will basically be a one income household...which means that now is the time to save!

As a side note..I would love to learn a new language!

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest

Another book review...

I just finished The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest by Stieg Larsoson. This was the final book (as for now) in the trilogy. I am hoping for more to come..so keep your fingers crossed!

I liked this book. I thought that it was great, entertaining, and it kept me turning the pages.

To be honest, I felt like the book was a little slow at times and I felt like it was almost anti-climactic.

My favorite of the three (I can say that now, because I have read them all) would have to be the second one: The Girl Who Played with Fire. It really was the middle book and I was in to the entire book!

Even though it was slow, I would recommend this set of books to anyone and everyone! I thought they were great and I can't wait to see the film in subtitles as well as the American versions when they come to theaters (I think by the end of the year??)

Now I have moved on to a completely different genre. I have started reading The Alchemist. I got it as a graduation gift and I started reading it yesterday and I am already 1/2 way through the book. It is a quick and easy read--That being said, the book is very uplifting and powerful. I may have to read it twice!

1/2 boy 1/2 man - Our American Soldiers

1/2 boy 1/2 man

The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired,
tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society
as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a
beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for
work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's, but he has
never collected unemployment either.

He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student,
pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has
a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to
be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and
roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howitzer.

He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is
working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble
spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a
rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can
recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use
either one effectively if he must.

He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional.

He can march until he is told to stop,
Or stop until he is told to march.

He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without
spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient.

He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his
canteens full and his feet dry.

He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He
can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts.

If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his
food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when
you run low..

He has learned to use his hands like weapons
And weapons like they were his hands.

He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job.

He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and still
find ironic humor in it all.

He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short
lifetime.

He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat
and is unashamed...

He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at
rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away ' those
around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop
talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends
their right to be disrespectful.

Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, he is paying the
price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the American
Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.

He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding.
Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his
blood.

And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this
tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so.

As you go to bed tonight, remember this shot.

A short lull, a little shade and a picture of
Loved ones in their helmets.

Prayer wheel for our military... Please say this prayer

Prayer Wheel

'Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands.
Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the
selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen.'

When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our
ground troops in Afghanistan, sailors on ships, and airmen in the air, and
for those in Iraq , Afghanistan and all foreign countries.

Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Sailor, Coastguardsman,
Marine, or Airman, prayer is the very best one.

Labor Day Weekend Wrap Up

As you know, I went to Tennessee this weekend to visit one of my best friends, Shmu!

I arrived EARLY on Friday morning and I showered, napped and then got ready for the day with a relaxing Pedicure with Mama Woody while waiting for Miss Shmu to arrive.
After our pedis, we went back to their house and picked up Miss Shmu and headed to lunch! We ate at this restaurant called "Mellow Mushroom." We ate DELICIOUS calzones and then headed back to the house to get ready to go to the LAKE!

We drove out to the Lake and made a stop at Richard's BBQ. This was a little hole in the wall that served all kinds of BBQ! Oh my gosh, it was DELICIOUS! We ate BBQ pulled pork potatoes! Oh boy, they were delicious!

We got to the Lake and ate our dinner there and then relaxed and fell asleep!

Saturday morning we woke up late and ate a light breakfast and Miss Shmu and I went for a little run! It was hot, so our run was definitely tiring! After the run we got our swim suits on and headed out on the boat and I got a tour of the Lake. The weather could not have been better! There was not a cloud in the sky!

We drove around and soaked up the sunshine! It was AMAZING!

We went in to grab Papa Woody's high school best friend and his high school sweet heart and went back out on the boat! It was great and I had the best time! I was determined to come back to CA with a southern drawl and this crowd was DEFINITELY the crowd to stick around for that goal!

We went back in and ate dinner and then Miss Shmu's sweetheart surprised her and showed up! We all spent the evening reminiscing and spending time in good company!

Sunday we woke up to homemade soy blueberry pancakes! We went out on the Boat and did what Miss Shmu and I do best on the water: Tubing! We were laughing about how much we are in our twenties and STILL LOVE tubing! We plan to be 100 years old and still tubing, hanging on for dear life being tugged around behind a boat!

Tubing is so exhausting! We went in for lunch and then Miss Shmu and I went out and paddle boated around the lake for some much needed Spott and Shmu time! We met the rest of the gang at the boat and they all greeted us with their "Summer Beer" (Tequila, Beer and Lime Juice) Soo tasty!
We relaxed and then headed back to the house and made dinner! Papa Woody has a snow-cone machine so we made snow-cones....toward the end they ended up being adult flavors, ie crown and 7 :-)

I learned how to fry food! I was all about it, even though I was eaten alive by every bug in the South! We fried french fries, hush puppies and fish! The trick to frying is to use peanut oil instead of canola or vegetable. The food was not greasy at all, it actually tasted like it had been breaded and baked! I told the Woody's that we need a fryer for our wedding :::hint hint:::

We ate dinner and then played a mean game of Bananagrams {If you haven't played it, you should try it! You can find the game at Walgreens!} while we ate homemade peach sorbet! Such a tasty treat!

We passed out and woke up early on Monday Morning for a quick run on the boat! We wakeboarded and slalom skied and came back in for a quick lunch, sad sad goodbyes and then Miss Shmu, Jame and I were headed to Memphis. On our way we had to drive through Mississippi... and then back into Tennessee... I had the best time and I want to go back! I will bring my sweeter back with me the next time and we will have to visit Knoxville! I love my Woodicoff Family and I can't wait to reunite with everyone again soon!!

Thank you for a fabulous weekend!

Bikers...

You know you are in Mississippi when....

I hope you all have a Great Day!

Fortune Cookie

Be prepared to modify your plan. It'll be good for you!

Wow, I am thinking about modifying my plans-as I type this....

Quote from a Fortune Cookie from PF Changs in Walnut Creek

A Smoking Baby?!

There is a 2 year old in Indonesia that allegedly has "quit smoking." Reports stated that he was smoking 40 cigarettes per day!

He has allegedly gone through a 30 day rehabilitation program and kicked his nicotine habit.

"He needs to be in a smoking-free environment so that he doesn't start smoking again," said Arist Merdeka Sirait, chairman of Indonesia's National Commission on Child Protection

you think?!

Thank goodness he has quit!!
....Oh boy....

September Travels

Happy 2nd day of September! This is one of the best months of the year and I am so ready to take it on!

Along with a few friends, this is my birthday month! I decided that since my birthday is smack in the middle of the week I wanted to celebrate during the long holiday weekend!

I wanted to spend my special celebration with a close friend, relaxing/eating/drinking and sunning! I decided to surprise one of my best friends (and bridesmaid), Shmu, in TENNESSEE! She has been there for the past 6 years and I have never visited her...believe it or not!

I had this whole elaborate plan to surprise her...I contacted her mom and we made up this story to get her home and I was planning to be casually sitting on the couch when she arrived....

...NAWT...

On Monday she told me that she had made plans with another friend and was not planning to come home. She was being stubborn when her mom was trying to convince her to come home. That being said, my accomplice (her mom) had to tell her that I was coming to ensure that she was there.... I am glad that Shmu was told so now she will not make other plans and will for sure be there...but it was a little disappointing to find out that she knew because the surprise was going to be 1/2 of the fun!

I have to put in about 6 more hours at work, and I get to spend the evening with FRIEND and then I will be on my way to my long birthday weekend! I am so excited!!

Look out Tennessee...YOU WON'T KNOW WHAT HIT'CHA!!
