Cake

Rich and I had a small cake to cut in to for our wedding cake and then the guests got sheet cakes from the most delicious bakery in the Bay, Katrina Rozelle. If you are ever in the Bay, make sure to stop by and get something from them! Yum!

Anyway, back to our small cake...

We brought the rest of it home with us, and we ate it the week week the wedding.

We decided not to save any of it, because, lets be real, who wants to eat a year old cake?!

Not us!

We decided that we would buy a replica cake and eat on our anniversary.

Sadly, the bakery doesn't mail cakes, and neither of us were about to drive up just for cake...

So it worked out perfectly, because I was heading up north the following weekend for my brother's promotion!

I ordered a replica of our cake, the coconut cake (view menu here).

And OMG it was AMAZING!

We thought about going with a different cake, one we served to our guests, and we were both very glad we didn't, because holy cow, it was totally worth eating again!

Now that I am drooling, I am back to work!

Weekend with the FamBam

My oldest little brother was 'promoted' from 8th grade, which is middle school, to 9th grade, which is high school! I flew up north to be at the ceremony and spend a long weekend with my parents, brothers and some friends!

One of my greatest friends came up and came with us to the promotion

Awe!!!!

We ate lots of food this weekend and drank lots of margaritas and fun drinks!

We made our way to San Francisco for a quick visit and we came across the annual naked bike race!

And we all know that I love naked people!! 

Mom and I drove the 911 through town, enjoying the sunshine with the top down!

We also had fun at a pool party to celebrate all of the graduates in the area!

My beautiful friend and I got to visit for the afternoon while we soaked up the sun!

We also celebrated my brother's 14th birthday! 

Wow! He is getting so big and growing so fast! 

Where does the time go?!

All in all, I had a fantastic trip up north!

I miss the bay...

A Day in the Life: Customer Service Volume 39

We have to do call backs. 

(this is when a customer changes their address or they start a new subscription, we call to confirm that they received the paper on that particular day)

Typically we leave messages, especially when we do them on Saturdays

However, this customer answered...

Me: I am calling from <newspaper>and I am calling to check to see if you received your newspaper this morning?

Customer: What?

Me: I repeated myself

Customer: Yes, I got the Wall Street Journal and Barrons...

Me: I am actually calling from <newspaper>, did you receive our newspaper?

Customer: I subscribe to the Monday only issue that I get on Saturday...

Me: Right, did you get the paper today?

Customer: Oh, yes

Seriously?

What part of  "did you get IBD today" did you not understand?!

ha! oh man...

A Day in the Life: Customer Service Volume 38

We offer free trials of the news paper and our online products.

We process a lot of trials throughout the day.

Customer: My friends told me I could get a free trial

Me: Absolutely, I will set that up for you, just a moment

Customer: Well do you want me name?

Me: Yes, in just a moment

<pause>

Me: May I have your name

Customer: <Spells his name>

Me: May I have your phone number?

Customer: Well, I am traveling all of the time, so its hard to reach me...

Me: OK...What is your delivery zip code first please?

Customer: Don't you want my address?

Me: I am asking you for your zip code first please.

Customer: Oh, <gives me his zip code>

Me: <asks him for the rest of his address>

Customer: <gives me the rest of his address>

Me: What is your email address?

Customer: It's a work email, so I don't want to give that out because they monitor it

Me: Ok, So your trial will start on <X> date and expire on <X> date

Customer: When will I get the paper?

Me: Like I said, it will start on <X> date

Ok, seriously?!

Why don't you just listen to what I say and answer the questions that I ask...

We obviously need the entire address, so I will ask you for it, when I NEED IT!

Ugh!

Ha!

La Cucaracha

So Rich and I had quite the eventful Saturday night...

We got home from our Saturday night picnic and we decided to make some tea and watch a movie on Netflix.

I lit a bunch of candles and we started the movie.

We are about 20 minutes in to The Pianist (great movie, by the way) and out of the corner of my eye, I see something move on the carpet...

I looked down to the carpet and saw nothing, so I continued to watch the movie, and then I see something move again...

So I tell Rich that there is a bug on the carpet, and it looks huge...

So we turned the lights on and there was a COCKROACH in my living room! About the size of a quarter, so he was pretty decent size...

I about peed my pants....

After we assessed the situation, Rich grabbed a container to try to scoop him up. Rich, of course, missed which sent the cockroach zooming under our TV stand.

(Those things are FAST)

This sent me to jump on to the couch and scream...

Rich grabbed the vacuum up and vacuumed him up, he got him and when we went to empty the vacuum we saw his little legs moving...he DIDNT DIE!

WHAT?!

So, of course, after this whole mess we cleaned the house, at 11pm...hahaha with still the majority of the movie left...

And now I can't stop singing La Cucaracha!

I worked at a summit (a free workshop) last weekend and came in contact with some interesting experiences...

Giraffe Test

There are 4 questions.

Correct Answer: The Elephant. The elephant is in the refrigerator. You just put him in there. 

This tests your memory. Okay, even if you did not answer the first three questions correctly, you still have one more chance to show your true abilities.

4. There is a river you must cross but it is used by crocodiles, and you do not have a boat. How do you manage it?

Correct Answer:? You jump into the river and swim across. Have you not been listening? All the crocodiles are attending the Animal Meeting. 

This tests whether you learn quickly from your mistakes.

According to Anderson Consulting Worldwide, around 90% of the Professionals they tested got all  questions wrong, but many preschoolers got several correct answers. Anderson Consulting says this

conclusively proves the theory that most professionals do not have the brains of a four-year-old.

Thankful Thursday

I just finished reading Half the Sky and wow was it powerful!
I absolutely recommend this book to anyone and everyone! Old, young, man or woman, blue or green!
It is so moving and will make you want to get your butt in to gear about changing the world!

Since I started reading this book, I have had this incredible urge to make a difference, big or small.


"A man goes out on the beach and sees that it is covered with starfish that have washed up in the tide. A little boy is walking along, picking them up and throwing them back into the water. "What are you doing, son?  The man asks. " you see how many starfish there are? You'll never make a difference." The boy paused thoughtfully, and picked up another starfish and threw it into the ocean.

I am thankful for the opportunities that I have had throughout my life, due to my parents, my family, my friends and my husband.

Once we were introduced, we went straight in to our first dance!

At the end of the toasts one of my very best friends surprised us with a video where she interviewed our family and guests and asked them questions about us compiling video clips. 

It was extremely special and I will hold that video close to my heart, forever!

(Plus, it will be pretty hard to top at her wedding...we have already started brain storming!)

We stayed and danced the night away until the last guests left and then we had the town car pick us up and take us back tot he hotel!

We drank champagne, ate yummy chocolate and truffles and talked and laughed the night away!

What a special and magical night!

Wow this was a lot of fun!
I loved reliving this!! How fun!

After the pictures at the church, Rich and I got into our town car and headed over to the reception site - The Blackhawk Auto Museum

We took some pictures out side before we went inside.
