I went to Italia in the summer of 2008. I studied Art, Music and Culture in Firenze for a month. Before my scholastic journey began, I spent about 8/9 days with my Zia and Zio (Aunt and Uncle) in Vicenza. Zio was stationed at the Army base there for about 3 years and I was fortunate enough to get a little introductory taste of Italia with them!
I have decided that I will take you along my journey based on the places I went :-)
Cittadella
Cittadella is a surrounded by a wall AND a Moat!! We got there in the early afternoon so everything was closed. (In Italia, everything closes around early afternoon until later in the afternoon for Lunch and reposo...it serves as a break and a time for people to go home to their families and have lunch. Food is very important here!)

I had my first, last and only experience with the typical stand up toilet. Fortunately, I made it out alive! It was pretty nasty...Zia gave me a few different tricks on how to not get pee on your legs! ;-) Oh, the small things...
Remember to bring tissues and hand sanitizer with you when you go to Europe...you don't want to be caught in one of these empty handed...
Until next time, Buon Giorno

I've never seen or even heard of these stand up toilets and I've been going to Europe all my life - even been to Italy twice. I feel lucky to have escaped them!
I've never seen a moat. That’s awesome. I also never encountered a stand up toilet while in Europe. Whew. (I thought they were only in Asia). In Germany, we used many self-cleaning toilets. Those were great!
wow! the citadella looks so neat! I hope to one day be able to travel abroad =)
I love that you are doing this it brings back so many memories and you are right you need plenty of tissues and sanitizer when you are in Europe..
Um, wait, huh?! How is a girl supposed to do that! Haha
