Honeymoon: Day 9

We woke up to a not so yummy breakfast, but it was breakfast nonetheless. We got ready and walked around Geneve.

We walked to Lake Geneve and walked along the water.

We saw the famous Jet d'eau de Geneve which was really cool. It was too bad that it wasn't blue skies outside so you could really see the water.

We walked along the lake and decided to make our way to the UNO. We went a very round about way of getting there, but we got there!

We took a tour and it was really interesting and informative! I very much enjoyed it!
I got a badge!! Pretty cool!

After the tour, we headed back to the hotel, picked up our stuff and stopped at the coop to pick up some food and we took the train from Geneve to Brig.

It was a long train ride, but that wasn't too bad. We took up playing chess on our iTouch's :-)

We arrive in Brig and called the hotel we were staying at and we ended up being picked up! Talk about door to door service!

We got to the hotel and saw this on the window...

...We went straight to our room and relaxed in there the rest of the night!

Honeymoon: Day 8

We had a leisurely last morning in Murren. We stayed at the Hotel Jungfrau and it was absolutely amazing we didn't want to leave!!  The staff was wonderful, the food was delicious and the rooms were great!  We had a blast there!

We ate breakfast and then headed on our way to Lausanne.  We got there, by train, and were going to find a place to stay once we got there....we had no such luck. Similar to Bern, there were no rooms available at a decent price.

So we decided to hop back on the train and head to Geneve for the night.  On the way from Murren to Geneve, we lost Rich's nalgene water bottle and we lost our Gorilla Pod we were both really bummed about all of the above!

Anyway, we got to Geneve and had zero idea of where we were going!  We got off the train and of course a freak thunder and lightening storm hit while we were walking the streets! We stopped under an overhang, put our rain gear on and put our rain covers over our packs and trekked on.

After looking for our hotel for two hours, we finally found it....long story...hahaha we were in the wrong area and didn't have a sufficient map.

Anyway, we finally found the hotel, right in the heart of the Geneve's downtown financial district.  We put our stuff down and went to dinner. We found a cheap dinner place and finally ate some greens....vegetables in Switzerland consist of iceberg lettuce and pickled everything else....not California, I can tell you that much :-)

At dinner we were talking about our trip and we decided to cut our honeymoon short because my knee was not getting any better. We only cut it 3 days short, but I could not handle it any more. I was having a difficult time walking and I was wanting to be a trooper, but you can only hold out for so long.... So we found a payphone and called our parents to let them know the news.

We got back to the hotel and got on the internet and planned our hotel accommodations for the rest of our stay.  We showered and relaxed and fell right to sleep in our plush bed!  We were expecting another long day to follow!

Happy Happy Birthday

Today is the beautiful Christine's 24th birthday.

Christine and I have been friends a long time, a very long time. We met in Middle School and became close through our Catholic upbringing. We realized that we had a lot of the same values and similar goals.

Christine is the most kind and genuine person I have ever known. She has the biggest heart and isn't afraid to show it.

She is very involved in her community, she is an elementary school teacher and loves her children and her children love her.

She is fun and always looking for something active to do. She love to dance and she loves to sing. She is a world traveler and has a blast doing it!

She has a passion for people. She will make time for anyone and everyone who asks for it and puts people before herself. I know that she would be here for me in an instant if I asked her and I would do the same for her.

Christine is beautiful is so many ways and I am so lucky to have her in my life. She has many qualities that I admire and I look up to her courage, her strength and her integrity.

I hope that she has the most magnificent birthday!  I know that she will be showered with lots of love and, sadly, I am having to shower her from afar.

Happy Birthday, Christiney!
You are the best and I hope you never forget that!

Honeymoon: Day 7

We woke up to the hotel breakfast....even better than the hotel breakfast in Interlaken. Oh boy, it was delicious! The best part about these breakfasts' is that they were so filling we didn't need to eat until dinner! Soooo good!

We got ourselves ready and decided to go Mountain Biking down through the Lauterbrunnen Valley and in to Interlaken.  We figured that Mountain Biking was better for my knee than hiking, less impact!

We got our bikes and were on our way.

We biked through Gimmelwald and then down through the Valley, up and over hills and over streams and
through small villages.

We made it down to Lauterbrunnen and decided to continue on down to Interlaken. We rode all the way down to where we stayed our first 2 nights. It was neat to be able to get a grip on the area!

We biked a long distance and decided to just take the train back up to Lauterbrunnen and then the lift to Murren.  It was a nice little day adventure! We had a great time seeing the beautiful scenery and admiring how amazing everything looked!

We went back to the hotel and ate dinner there. The man who was playing the Alphorn the night before came to the restaurant and actually played for the restaurant guests! It was amazing!

Honeymoon: Day 6

We woke up early, packed our stuff and walked to the train station.

It took us a bit of time because on our hike back from the Lake, I hurt my knee and it was not feeling any better!

So I hobbled to the train station....

We took the train from Kandersteg to Lauterbrunnen.  In Lauterbrunnen there is a famous Waterfall: Trummelbach Falls. The Trummelbach drains water from the glaciers from the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau, the 3 famous mountains in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and can produce up to 20,000 liters of water drainage per second!

We took a tour of the waterfall and were just taken aback by how fast the water was coming out and how loud it all was. It was beautiful!

From there we took a lift up to Murren.  We had to take a lift to a train and then take a train up there. It was beautiful. This little town is nestled in the Mountain side where no cars are allowed.  Murren was, by far, our favorite place.

We made it up to our hotel and then decided to not waste any more daylight and head up to the Schilthorn.  The Schilthorn is basically at the top of the Swiss Alps. It was so beautiful. The Schiltshorn's claim to fame is that a James Bond movie was filmed at the top, Her Majesty's Secret Service. So there was a James Bond Gift Shop up there and a rotating restaurant that allowed for amazing views of the Alps.

We spent a couple of hours up there, eating and enjoyed the view.

We came back down and we went back to the hotel and we were able to witness something so cool!
We were sitting in our room with the window open when all of a sudden we could hear music. We looked outside and we saw a man on the hillside playing the Alphorn! It was sooo awesome!

The pictures aren't the best bc he was far away...

Sorry for the very pixelated image
The video is not the best, I hope you can hear it....

We relaxed a bit more and went for a walk to get some dinner and after dinner coffee.

It was a great day packed with awesome sightseeing!

Honeymoon: Day 5

We made it to Kandersteg!

We stayed in an SAC, a cheap place to keep us for a couple of nights. It turned out to be a Boy Scout Camping spot so we got to spend a lot of time with young boys who were camping, hiking etc.  Rich and I still laugh about how we ate in their dining room with a bunch of kids, on our honeymoon! Oh well, it was cheap and warm and we had beds! :-)

We woke up, have breakfast, definitely nothing like in Interlaken, and got ready to go on a day hike.  We hiked to a beautiful lake, Lake Oeschinensee.

We hiked through the pass located right above our heads

The mountains!

Snow Caps

The lake reminded me a lot of Avatar...it didn't look real at all! It was soo beautiful!

The water was soo clear!

It doesn't even look real!
We packed a lunch and started to eat it near a waterfall when a gust of wind came and moved the waterfall so we got soaking wet! Too funny!

The waterfall that got us wet!

our wet stuff!

We walked around the lake and this is the view from the other side

Our hike back down
I have a thing for waterfalls. I love them.
So Rich appeased me and took me to every waterfall we could find in all of Switzerland :-)

We spent the afternoon there and headed back to the SAC, had dinner and relaxed!

It was a nice and relaxing day after our long hike!
